Rehemah Namakula, popularly known by her stage name Rema, is a Ugandan Afro beat and RnB recording artist and song writer.
Early life and education
Rema was born Rehema Namakula on 24 April 1991 at Lubaga Hospital in Kampala to the Hamida Nabbosa and late Mukiibi Sssemakula, .
She went to Saint Balikuddembe Senior Secondary School for O’ and A’ Level. After high school, she joined Kyambogo University.
Music Career
During her Senior 6, she started singing Karaoke. Halima Namakula (Rema’s paternal aunt) took her on later on as the her backup singer. Halima’s experince in the music industry and her live band helped Rema master vocal techniques and mentorship.
After a short while with Halima Namakula, Rema joined Bebe Cool’s Gagamel Banda as a backup singer. In 2010, she featured on Bebe Cool’s single Ceaze And Sekkle, which did so well and introduced her to the music scene.
Departure from Gagamel
One time in 2013 when Bebe Cool was watching TV, he was surprised to see her band member Rema on a TV interview talking about her upcoming album which Bebe Cool, the band’s boss, did not know about. Bebe Cool says he fired her right after the interview.
