The Luganda phrase okuwanika ebbango literally means “to raise a hump”. However the slang is used as an idiom meaning to mean be better or or toughen.
Where did the Bango slang originate from?
Contrary to popular belief, the slang Bango did not start with Rickman Manrick’s song Ebango. It originated from the Luganda speaking urban cultures in Kampala, like most slangs. It crossed the border into Ugandan diaspora in Sweden by late 2018 and became so popular there. Rickman Manrick being a creative artist he is, wrote a song in it.
