Sasha Vybz, original name Ian Akankwasa, is a Ugandan video and movie director, cinematographer and entrepreneur. He is among the best video directors in East Africa with tens of music videos to his name.
Sasha Vybz is the founder and CEO of Savy Films, a multimedia company specialising in motion pictures, mainly music videos, movies and documemntaries.
Video director career
Sasha Vybz came to the limelight in early 2010s producing state of the art music video that were not so common in the Ugandan music industry. Sasha’s video were characterized with a great picture, coloring and good lighting.
To musicians including Bebe Cool, Jose Chameleon and Sheebah liked him because his videos gave them a competing advantage against Nigerian music videos.
Artists like Davido, Wizkid, P Square and Mr Flavor were dominating the Ugandan TV charts because of allegedly having better quality videos than those shot in Uganda. Sasha Vybz addressed the poor video problem and pushed the bar higher for Ugandan video quality standards.
Awards and recognitions
Sasha has won several awards and recognition over the years both in Uganda, East Africa and Africa as a whole. He has aslo been nominated several times.
His award include HiPipo Music Awards in Uganda, Zzina Awards and AFRIMA.
