9 people have been confirmed to have died and many more were injured in a deadly stampede at Freedom City on Year’s Eve. More saddening news is that among the dead many were minors who had gone to enjoy the end-of-the-year concert.
Police are still investigating the cause of the ore info about this tragedy will be but initial reports indicate that the stampede started close to the clocking of the new year.
It’s said that the MC on stage at that time encouraged the audience to move outside the holly and see fireworks. The lack of crowd control teams is likely to have caused so many people to squeeze themselves into the very narrow exits of the indoor hall at the same and this led to the stampede.

Police update the number of victims to 10
Police have updated the total number of victims to 10, from 9 first announced yesterday. Another person who was critically injured lost his life yesterday bringing the total number of lost lives to 10.
Police Arrests Event Organizer Abitex Over Negligence
Events organize Abby Musinguzi popularly known as Abitex has been arrested by police on charges of negligence. Abitex was the organizer of the Party After Party event at Freedom City on 31 December 2022 in which a total of 10 people lost their lives in a stampede.
Police say he is to help them with the investigation into the negligence that caused the trajedy.

According to the police spokesperson, everything was going well until the time for the fireworks when the event MC encouraged the revelers to go outside and watch the fireworks.
Security had locked four other exits and entries and the revelers had to use one point of entry and exit. Therefore, several victims were trapped and tramped upon through the narrow passage which became a bottleneck for many, mostly juveniles.
